Open Ballot Box

Unsealed ballot box with yellow seals detached at polling station in PK-27, Mardan.

MARDAN PK-27: According to evidence gathered by PakVotes Field Monitor, polling staff including the presiding officer at Polling station Number 74 at PK-27 had not made preparations to allow the votes to be cast. The ballot boxes were not sealed and no women voters were allowed to come and cast their ballot. This is in keeping with the trend seen all over the district where turnout at women polling stations has been very low.

Earlier, evidence came forward of an agreement between presiding officer and polling agents at another women’s polling station in PK-27 under which women were not allowed to come and cast their votes. There are also rumours of an agreement between the contesting candidates of the constituency.
